That night, I found sleep elusive. News that the person behind the candlelight was an orphan, living with grandparents, and was soon moving away filled my heart with a mix of empathy and regret. Every night thereafter, I'd find myself staring into the dark, yearning for that comforting candlelight, even though reason told me it might never return.

The following day, I ventured to my usual bookstore. After perusing the shelves for about an hour, I settled on two books. However, a check of my purse revealed that I had brought insufficient funds, forcing me to pick just one for now. Approaching the cashier, I immediately noticed a change. Instead of the usual girl, two young men stood behind the counter.

I assumed they were new hires. As one of them moved away to restock the shelves, the other processed my purchase. I couldn’t help but notice his pleasant features and our seemingly matching age. When he handed back my change, he just smile to me and commented on my book choice, mentioning its worth as a read. Being introverted, I managed a smile and a brief, "Yeah, I think so. I'll find out once I read it."

Once the transaction was complete, I hurried out, eager to return to the sanctuary of my home. As I rode back, my thoughts lingered on the orphan. I couldn't help but wonder if he could be one of the new hires at the bookstore.

To be continued
