The examination spanned six grueling working days, granting us a two-day respite before the final stretch. My curiosity about the candlelight source was insatiable, so during this break, I decided to visit that place once more.

As I approached the building, I caught snippets of muffled voices. For a brief moment, I halted, dismounting my bicycle, ears straining to discern the words. The short distance I covered in front of the building felt both endless and fleeting. Yet when I peeked, no one was in sight, just the enigmatic echoes of conversation.

Refocusing on the task at hand, I returned home to intensively prepare for my last exam. Once it was over, an overwhelming sense of accomplishment washed over me. However, the byproduct of my nocturnal study sessions was insomnia, and sleep became a distant luxury.

True to my suspicions, the comforting glow of the candlelight ceased its nightly dance. The sudden void amplified my feelings of solitude. It was a novel, bitter taste of loneliness, one I struggled to overcome.

The day our results were to be announced came two months later, pushing my sense of isolation to the background. The palpable anticipation wasn't just mine but shared by my parents. Although I secured two credits and a relatively high score, it fell just short of my aspirations. Nevertheless, it was sufficient to grant me entry to my desired university.

To celebrate my achievements, my parents hosted a small gathering. As the evening progressed, the adults conversed, sharing stories and future plans. I played the role of the observer until the topic shifted to another student who had undertaken the same exams. An instinctual feeling gripped me, suggesting that this might be the person linked to the mysterious candlelight.

To be continued
